Well August has come and gone and a very quiet month for me. No posts on the blog and no painting done. I did manage to play seven games with Epic Kreoss and the High Reclaimer, winning three of those and my first win with the High Reclaimer.
I have no tournaments planned for the rest of the year at the moment, in fact I should be at Iron Wrath today but couldn’t make it.
So September and I really need to get some painting in !!
July was a better month for me on the playing side. With the ETC last month I managed to get in ten games, winning three of these. I am determined that August and the coming months to get a lot more games in.
On the painting side again a lot of progress has been made. I have completed three Wreck Markers and the dismounted Gravus. So started on the Monolith Bearer and the mounted Gravus.
Well the game on Thursday with The High Reclaimer did not go well. I got a single soul token all game mainly because I spread the Errants out too far away. In saying the game didn’t go well this was a game I could have won if my dice were a little better. Basically I left Epic Magnus on four wounds. The clouds did the trick as expected.
So after we got back I started to give the list some thought. The denial elements of my original list all worked, but I felt the army size was too large. I wanted to take the Errants out and up the Holy Zealots to the maximum. Here is the list I will start practising with. After a few more games I will post some thoughts on the list.
The High Reclaimer (*6pts)
Avatar of Menoth (11pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Vessel of Judgement (9pts)
Holy Zealots (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
Holy Zealot Monolith Bearer (2pts)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2pts)
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor (2pts)
The Wrack (3 wracks) (1pts)
Vassal Mechanik (1pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
I mentioned in a previous post that I wanted to take The High Reclaimer to a tournament. I am looking at Iron Wraith and Scrap Metal later in the year. So these posts on The High Reclaimer will be a series of posts leading up to my first tournament appearance with this caster. Lets see how I go!
After painting Exemplar Errants plus UA and Sceneschal, followed by the Daughters of the Flame and Nicia I need a change of pace. All of these needed painting in time for the ETC last week, so needless to say it was a bit of a rush at times.
What is next? A solo I think, something I can spend some time over. Now my Epic Kreoss list needs some attention to bring it up to fully painted standard, and this brings me onto High Exemplar Gravus. This miniature works well with all the Exemplar miniatures in the Kreoss list. But more importantly it provides an anti knock down ability for all these Exemplars, the Covenant is in the Thyra list for character restriction purposes.
So High Exemplar Gravus it is. But before I make a start I need to finish the three wreck markers I have started, this isn’t going to take long so expect some updates on Gravus in the comings weeks.
So here we have my first 50 games of Warmachine this year. The months of Jan, Feb, May and June were very quiet on the gaming side. However in March it went mental and I played a massive 26 games. Of these 50 games I won a lowly 13, however that is 26%, which is an improvement on last year. Lets see what the next 50 games bring this year, its already started with 3 straight wins.

I have a new Warcaster painted and ready for the gaming table “The High Reclaimer”. After playing Epic Kreoss a lot this year and Thyra at the ETC, I wanted a change of pace and a new challenge. So I opted for the The High Reclaimer a while back. Another reason for the choice is you don’t see this Warcaster being played at all at tournaments, and there is the challenge. Can I take this rarely seen Warcaster to a tournament and do well?
Whilst painting the Errants over the past couple of months I took a few weekends out and started painting this miniature. Finally finishing it this week. Its had its final finish of Dull Cote yesterday.
Another miniature I haven’t played with a lot recently is the “Vessel of Judgement”. So I want to build a list with this Battle Engine along with this Warcaster. At the moment I have some ideas for a list, but nothing in concrete.
I want to try a list with a lot of denial. For example the Errants, Holy Zealots and the Avatar can’t be targeted by spells. Other Warjacks can also have this ability via the Choir.
Then there are the clouds that this Warcaster can put down to protect against ranged attacks. So this evening we are off to Maelstrom for some gaming, lets see how it goes!
I only just won my game with a single control point, with only Thyra and Vilmon remaining on the table. My opponent was very unlucky and didn’t get a miniature in base contact with a flag and dice down was called. Thyra parked her self on the flag he needed to control and luckly survived when dice down was called.
My entire unit of Bastions were raped in a single turn with Rocinante and Captain Damiano’s Warpath spell. But thinking back on this part of the game, I was astonished a Warjack could destroy a unit like this in one turn. So checked the rules for Warpath, and found that it can only move once per turn and I am sure the Warjack moved at least three times. But a win is a win, and we as a team also won.
One of the big talking points of the weekend were the amount of Stormwall’s and what effect they would have on the tournament. In a single list environment like the ETC some players where at a disadvantage, not having a list to combat these. But then its a team event so along as someone in the team can combat the Stormwall then I don’t see and issue, unlike some. This picture was taken over Sunday lunch of some of the Stormwalls at the event.
Before we go onto the last game of the event, I would like to mention one of our team mates Marc who was playing Cryx. He had won all five of his tournament games at this point, and have accumulated a lot of control points. So we helped Marc with an easy match up to aid his quest in getting best in faction for Cryx. But our opponents played their team feat and swapped the original opponent to a Menoth player. This Menoth player was also in line for getting best in faction. Marc eventually went on the lose this game, by only two army points. The Menoth player went on to win best in faction, but Marc lost out on best in faction for Cryx. Had he killed three more points in the final game it would have been a much different story.
So onto the last game of the event we played “Team Netherlands” and I was put up against a Skorne player, this time with Molik Karn. And “Yes” I lost this game to a Molik Karn assasination run. I thought I had Molik covered and most of his army was tied up with Errants and Daughters, so I was ready for my assasination run next turn. But it wasn’t to be. The team also lost this final game, so we went 3 and 3 for the tournament and ended up in 39th place out of 54 teams.
In the individual rankings for the tournament I finished in 134th out of 216 players and won three of my six games. Very happy with this, finishing around mid table. More control points would have moved me higher up the rankings. The top player on three wins was 80th, so there is some improvement I can make here (win more control points!).
This picture taken at this year’s ETC sums up the event perfectly. This was exactly how I feeled at the end of the weekend, completely knackered. To much drink and plenty of gaming, some might say not enough! Each day was a long tiring day, but so much fun!
But given the tiredness at the end of the weekend I would not have missed this tournament, it was absolutely brilliant.
Sorry Dave I simply had to post this picture!
So onto next year’s ETC and this time myself and Tyler will hopefully be getting a team together from some friends who attend Maelstrom gaming evenings.
