Protectorate of Menoth

Errants on the Painting Table (2 Weeks)

The Exemplar Errants have been on the painting table now for two weeks. The picture show my progress. I usually paint all the same colours at once when batch painting a number of miniatures. However this time I decided to take a different approach.

This time I am painting an area of each miniature at once, before moving onto another area. I painted all the chain mail first, then the helmets and shoulder armour. Next moving onto the upper body. Having tired this method I have to say I much prefer this method of painting.

Next update in another two weeks!

Dissecting my Thyra Hardcore List

This is my 50 point Thyra Hardcore list which I qualified with at the 2012 Hardcore Series heat. Even though I did qualify with this list I think it could be tweaked and made a little better.

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow (*6pts)
Reckoner (8pts)
Hierophant (2pts)
Avatar of Menoth (11pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard (4pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon (3pts)
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan (2pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)
Saxon Orrik (2pts)
The Covenant of Menoth (2pts)
The Wrack (3 wracks) (1pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)

So before I start swapping in and out miniature, these are the miniatures which I deem as a must have for Thyra at Hardcore.

Reckoner (8pts)
Hierophant (2pts)
Avatar of Menoth (11pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan (2pts)
Saxon Orrik (2pts)
The Covenant of Menoth (2pts)
The Wrack (3 wracks) (1pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)

Here is my reasoning on each of the miniatures. The Reckoner with Assault giving a 20″ threat range. The Hierophant, Avatar of Menoth and The Wrack help Thyra manage her low focus. The Choir of Menoth enough said. Madelyn Corbeau for the extra 3″ charge threat on Thyra. Saxon Orrik giving Thyra Pathfinder. The Covenant of Menoth to keep Thyra on her feet, or continuous fire on a charge. Both Vassals of Menoth to Enliven both the Reckoner and Avatar of Menoth, or an Ancillary Attack on the Reckoner.

The Exemplar Bastions I still have in question, they are a very good unit to hold up my opponent, yet they lack in speed. Still considering the Exemplar Vengers, but for the moment the Bastions are included.

This leave these miniatures which are up for replacing with another Reckoner, possibly Nicia, Tear of Vengeance and may be the Exemplar Vengers.

Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard (4pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon (3pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)

Therefore by adding another Reckoner I remove Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard and both Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts). So this leave only Eiryss, Angel of Retribution. High Paladin Dartan Vilmon and possibly the Exemplar Bastions in question. However High Paladin Dartan Vilmon can help keep Madelyn Corbeau alive with the use of Sucker and he has reach, with I like.

So it’s possibly going to be swapping Eiryss, Angel of Retribution with Nicia, Tear of Vengeance. Both are 3 points so a straight swap. If the Exemplar Bastions are swapped out for the Exemplar Vengers, then I have a point spare for a Vassal Mechanik. However with out the Exemplar Bastions then Thyra could be exposed early on in the game with the Exemplar Vengers being a lot more killable than the Exemplar Bastions. So here is what the list possibly looks like

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow (*6pts)
Reckoner (8pts)
Reckoner (8pts)
Hierophant (2pts)
Avatar of Menoth (11pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
or
Exemplar Vengers (Leader and 2 Grunts) (7pts) and a Vassal Mechanik (1pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
or
Nicia, Tear of Vengeance (3pts)
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon (3pts)
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan (2pts)
Saxon Orrik (2pts)
The Covenant of Menoth (2pts)
The Wrack (3 wracks) (1pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)

The final is not until December, so plenty of time to play test the list and paint the new miniatures. I may take the list to another qualifier to test it, as Tyler will probably also want to attempt and qualify also.

What a weekend !!!

I spent the weekend at Maelstrom Games playing in two tournaments. Saturday was Iron Wrath III and Sunday was the Hardcore Series II Heat. Got to admit on Sunday evening I was toast after playing 9 competative games over the weekend. Of those 9 games I managed to win 3, but could have been more.

Saturday and Iron Wrath III.

First game was against Ron and his Skorne. Sorry Rob can’t remember a lot about this game (was a long weekend), but can remember I lost by caster kill. Next was another Rob and his Legion, another lose by scenario. Then the 50 point game of the day against Adam and Cryx, and another lose by scenario.

So after three games all with Thyra I needed a win, so eKroess for the last game against Bruce and his Khador. Managed a caster kill with kreoss charging eButcher.

At the end of Saturday playing 3 competitive games with Thyra and losing all 3, I wasn’t looking forward to the Hardcore on Sunday. Got to admit, I wished I could change the list and take pKreoss who I took last year and had some good games with.

Sunday and Hardcore Series II Heat I.

First game and Marc with his Protectorate of Menoth, lost by caster kill. Although Thyra did failed her charge into Kreoss my less than a millimeter in turn two (needless to say we were very careful in measuring!).

Next Rob and Trollbloods which I won by caster kill. Rob forget Thyra was Stealth with Occulation and moved his Warlock into her charge range (15 inches) for a ranged assassination, needless to say the Warlock died next turn due to Silence of Death (with no transfers and no Tough).

My third game was against James with Cynar and another caster kill win! This time an Enlivened Avatar moved into range of Brisbane, and he died next turn. I really enjoy playing with two Enlivened Warjacks!

This put me on two wins and table 4 with 2 games to go. So it was up against Lewis and Legion in game 4, which unfortunately resulted in a loss by caster kill.

Going into the last game it was possible to definitely qualify for the finals with a win, and I ended the day against Phil and his Cygnar (eHaley). The Reckoner managed to get ten wounds on Haley whilst under the influence of her feat, but the Ancillary Attack failed to hit needing 9’s. The Thunderhead then killed Thyra with the auto hits. Which meant a long wait for the round to end and the results to be announced before I knew if I had qualified for the finals.

The top 16 players qualify from 3 heats, so I was in with a chance. I did qualify in 16th place, so its the Hardcore Series II finals in December for me, and after my performance during the day with Thyra I will definitely be taking her maybe with a few tweaks to the list!

Here is my Thyra Hardcore list, which will probably be tweaked before the finals in December. I am going to consider adding another Reckoner, and possibly a unit of Vengers for the speed to keep up with Thyra, as I found Thyra was bound by the speed of the Bastions.

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow (*6pts)
Reckoner (8pts)
Hierophant (2pts)
Avatar of Menoth (11pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard (4pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon (3pts)
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan (2pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)
Saxon Orrik (2pts)
The Covenant of Menoth (2pts)
The Wrack (3 wracks) (1pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)

Having checked the UK Warmachine/Hordes rankings on Monday I have moved up the rankings from 123rd to 90th. So thats a big jump and a tick against one of my new years resolutions to improve my UK Warmachine/Hordes ranking on Rankings HQ.

Like the post title says….

What a weekend !!!

Errants on the Painting Table

Eventually the Exemplar Errants have made it onto the Painting Table. I am painting all thirteen miniatures at once. Thats a full unit of a leader and nine grunts, the officer and standard bearer along with the Sceneschal.

I am giving myself ten weeks to complete all thirteen miniatures. I usually paint single figures, or a minimum size unit at once. But this time with the Errants I am tackling a full size unit.

Menoth Bases

When people see my Protectorate of Menoth army on the gaming table, I am always asked how I do my bases. The usual preconception is that its green stuff with lines etched in. However this is not the case. So I thought I would post on my blog how I have achieved my desired affect.

The base is textured plastic card from Antenocitis Workshop a name which I have no idea how to pronounce! The product is Wills Crazy Paving which you get 3 approx A5 size sheets for currently £3.18.

I then cut out the circles using templates a pound coin, milk carton top, and a 40mm base for the various sizes of base. These are then glued in place and painted using P3 Bloodtracker Brown and P3 Menoth White Base.

At the moment the bases are painted in only these two colours, but at some point in the future I will be attempting more shading and highlighting.

The Vessel of Judgement caused me a few problem! I could not find a suitable size template, plus one sheet was not big enough. So had to cut two halves and green stuff the join.

February Update

Played six games during February, winning only one with Epic Kreoss against Tyler’s Mercenaries.  However had two other games which I should/could have won. Really enjoying play Epic Kreoss at the moment,

Another month of progress on the painting table has seen the Vessel of Judgement complete, and the Knights Exemplar near completion. So its the Vanqisher next to be painted.

Epic Kreoss @ 35 Points

I have been putting together some 35 point lists for the up and coming Iron Wrath III tournament at Maelstrom Games next month. So I thought Epic Kreoss would be a good place to start. This has changed my painting plans and put the Knights Exemplar on the painting table.

The tournament does not have the Steamroller character restrictions, so I can put Rhoven, Vilmon and the Covenant in all lists.

I have played this list against Tyler’s Mercenaries over the weekend and narrowly lost the game, but was very happy with how it played.

Grand Exemplar Kreoss (*6pts)
Reckoner (8pts)
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts) (2pts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
Knights Exemplar (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5pts)
Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard (4pts)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3pts)
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon (3pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2pts)
The Covenant of Menoth (2pts)
Vassal of Menoth (2pts)

Apart from being painted (apart from the Knights at the moment), here are my thoughts/reasons for inclusion in the list. I wanted a list of Weapon Masters to go along with Kreoss’s feat, which is basically auto hit in melee with an additional attack.  Therefore this being the reason for putting the Knights Exemplar on the painting table. So apart from the support solos/units and Eyrss all miniatures are Weapon Masters.

January Update

Been a slow start to the new year on the gaming side, with only two visits to Maelstrom. So only two games played, both against Tyler and his Mercenaries. I lost both games, really can’t handle that army list at the moment.

A lot of progress on the painting table this month.  The Vassal Mechanik is complete.  Epic Kreoss is nearly complete with only basing, a few highlights and shadows to do. But I have made a lot of progress on the Vessel of Judgement.  The model has been completely base coated, having spent an entire weekend devoting myself to getting it painted.  So another two days this weekend and I should see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Too many characters

It seems I have a lot of characters painted in my Protectorate of Menoth collection and very low on units.  My Mercenary collection is currently Madelyn Corbeau, Rhupert Carvolo, Saxon Orrik, Taryn di la Rovissi, Eiryss, Angel of Retribution and Gorman di Wulfe. Add to this the Protectorate miniatures of The Covenant of Menoth, High Paladin Dartan Vilmon, Visgoth Juviah Rhoven, and the Avatar of Menoth.  This leave the Choir and Bastions, a pair of Palladins, a pair of Vassals, the Hierophant and some Wracks apart from some Warjacks as non-character miniatures.

Now with Steamroller 2012 including a character restriction across lists at some tournaments (depending on the TO), I find myself struggling to build three separate lists even with the Vessel of Judgement and a Mechanik painted (of which they are not currently painted).  So it seems I prefer to paint solo characters!

This needs to be rectified, so once Epic Kreoss is complete and the Vessel of Judgement painted it will be onto the Errants.  But there is a snag and its all down to The Covenant of Menoth.  The Book provided an anti knock-down ability in a list, and was always an auto include in any 50 point list I put together.  The answer to this problem is another character solo, High Exemplar Sarvan Gravus who also has this ability for other Exemplars. Do I need another character solo at this time?  Mind you it is a lovely miniature and I am looking forward to painting it.

Too many characters is not my only problem. I am also lacking on ranged attacks with the Reckoner really being my only option. I have a Vanquisher, but again not painted.  Having played the Vanquisher in lists before in the past I have found it very effective, so its high on the to do painting list!

Re-enforcements, I forgot about those! Again another change to Steamroller 2012. I am sure TO’s will be keen to include scenarios which include re-enforcements.  So if I am struggling to build three 50 point lists, with the character restriction I am going to find it impossible to find re-enforcements.  The Exemplar Vengers would be an ideal choice for re-enforcements, but again not painted.

So what to paint next, the full unit of Errants with banner and Sceneschal, High Exemplar Sarvan Gravus, the Exemplar Vengers or a Vanquisher?

My Painted Thyra Lists

Only painted miniatures on the gaming table from now on! So I gave Thyra some thought this afternoon and came up with these two lists. The 50 point list is what I plan on taking to the Hardcore Series this year. I missed out on tickets for the Maelstrom Heat, but hoping to get tickets for Cardiff or Chorley later on in the year.

Here is the reasoning for some of the miniatures included. The Hierophant and the The Wrack because Thyra only has 6 focus, and these miniatures will help. Madelyn Corbeau has been included for the extra 3″ movement, therefore extending Thyra’s charge range. Saxon Orrik for the ability to give Thyra pathfinder. High Paladin Dartan Vilmon will help keep Madelyn Corbeau alive with the use of Sucker and Impervious Wall! If you take Vilmon you should take some Palladins, so included two.  Although this is primarily a list to face Hordes I have included Eiryss, Angel of Retribution for the ability to strip focus from Warcatsers. Finally the The Covenant of Menoth to avoid Thyra being knocked down.

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow 50 Points

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow
Reckoner
Hierophant
Avatar of Menoth
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan
Paladin of the Order of the Wall
Paladin of the Order of the Wall
Saxon Orrik
The Covenant of Menoth
The Wrack (3 wracks)
Vassal of Menoth
Vassal of Menoth

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow 35 Points

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow
Reckoner
Hierophant
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard

High Paladin Dartan Vilmon
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan
Paladin of the Order of the Wall
Saxon Orrik
The Covenant of Menoth
The Wrack (3 wracks)
Vassal of Menoth

Now I will give Kreoss and Severius some thought and build two lists for each. I will be keeping in mind the Steamroller 2012 character restrictions. At the moment its going to be a struggle to build lists for all 3 Warcasters and not duplicate characters.  So Madelyn Corbeau, Saxon Orrik, Eiryss, and The Covenant of Menoth will not be include in other Warcaster lists.  This will leave High Paladin Dartan Vilmon, Visgoth Juviah Rhoven and the Avatar of Menoth as the only other duplicated characters.

Only Painted

I made the decision today to only play Warmachine with my Protectorate of Menoth with only painted miniatures.  I have been thinking about this for some time now. The decision was based upon the number of unpainted miniatures I currently own. This was causing me to dilute the number of times I play with certain minatures.

Another reason for this decision is that it may motivate me to get the miniatures painted.  For instance I have a full unit of Errants, Gravus and the Vessel of Judgement which I am enjoying playing, but are not painted.  Will these miniature be painted in time for my next big tournament? May be not.  So hopefully I will play better with my painted miniatures, having played more games with these.

On the painting table at the moment is the Vessel of Judgement, a Vassal Mechanik and Grand Exemplar Kreoss.  The Mechanik is almost complete.  I have painted the two miniatures and base of the Vessel of Judgement, but the Vessel its self is going to take some time to complete.  Grand Exemplar Kreoss is still to be primed. After these are complete its onto the unit of Errants with the banner unit attachment and a Errant Seneschal.

Scrap Metal IV

Myself and Tyler are off to Maelstrom Games for a weekend tournament, Scrap Metal IV.  Its a six game tournament over two days, with three fifty point lists which have to be played at least once.  We are playing Incursion, Sacrifice and Outflank, Outfight, Outlast on Saturday, Command & Control, Gaining Ground and Process of Elimination on Sunday.  At the last Scrap Metal I finished in last place, this is something I really want to avoid this time.  But after last weekend at the Hardcore event, I really need to get my act together.  However I don’t think I can play that bad again!

These are the lists I will be using.  I wanted to use all the painted miniatures I have, as this will be the last tournament I will be able to do so.  Plus the Crusader and the little Repenter haven’t seen the battlefields for a while.

150 Warmachine Games – September Update

Another slow month on the playing side of the game, but a little more progress has been made on the painting.

During September I only played ten games.  But I did start the month with three wins in a row.  Unfortunately these were the only wins I got all month.  However my win ratio is now above twenty percent again, but only just.

With three months remaining and twenty six games to go, I think that I should hit the target of one hundred and fifty games!

Whole Catalogue of Errors in a Day

This post would should have been a tournament report of the Maelstrom Hardcore Sunday, but the day went so badly for me on the gaming side that I had to document what went wrong.

I played five games of Hardcore and failed to win a single game, this was mostly due to the fast catalogue of errors I made.  My opponents were Marc (Skorne), Mark (Skorne), Richard (Retribution), Tim (Cryx) and Tyler (Khador).

First game and Marc with Skorne.  Brilliant I thought at last I face a Hordes faction with Thrya in a tournament game!  Everything was going well Marc failed to hit Thyra with a load of attacks needing 10’s to hit.  So Thyra cast Silence of Death and charged Epic Makeda, leaving her on two wounds.  Error No. 1 – I didn’t need to pop Thrya feat to get the charge but should have, because the rest of the army would have benefited from it had Thrya failed to kill Epic Makeda.  So looking around I see High Paladin Dartan Vilmon can get into combat with Epic Makeda so he does.  Error No. 2 – Didn’t see the free strike that Vilmon took which killed him.  This could have been avoided if another Paladin killed the model which caused the free strike.  And of course Thyra feat would have benefited me here.  Error No. 3 – Visgoth Rhoven should have removed the one remaining Fury from Epic Makeda before Vilmon was activated, because Marc would have just transferred the damage.  And so onto Error No. 4 – The Covenant of Menoth should have put Flames of Wrath on Thyra giving her the fire continuous effect on models she hit’s.  Finally Error No. 5 – Had Thyra removed a focus point off a wrack, then she could have attacked Epic Makeda one final time and hopefully killed her.  All of these errors could have won be the game, if I played it right.

So second game and Mark with Skorne.  Again I thought another Hordes faction, time to put everything that went wrong in the first game right.  But the day was just going from bad to worse.  So Thyra gets a charge into Epic Morghoul and starts doing some damage and Mark starts transfering then Thyra gets down to three remaining focus.  Error No. 6 – And probably the biggest error of the day.  I didn’t cast Silence of Death and didn’t spot that I hadn’t.

Next game and Richard and his Retribution.  Another game and another assination charge with Thyra into Rahn.  Error No. 7 – Rahn was on full Focus, so Epic Eyrss should have removed the Focus first.  This would have meant a free strike, which see did avoid later in the game.  Again Errors 3, 4 and 5 from the first game happened again.  After Thrya charged Rahn was left on six wounds.  So Bastions charged, Error No. 8 – I didn’t see that a Bastion could charge Rahn.  So another lose.

Next Tim with Cryx.  I didn’t really have a chance to make any errors this game.  Tim played the game very well, moving my miniatures to get a charge into Thrya and game over.

Final game and Tyler with Khador.  Mentally drained at this point during the day, played like a muppet.  Finally putting Thyra in striking distance of the Spriggan and game over.

All in all I enjoyed the days gaming, but really annoyed with myself over the number of silly errors and mistakes I made.

150 Warmachine Games – August Update

There is no doubt that I will achieve the one hundred and fifty games of Warmachine this year.  This is despite August being a slow month on both the playing and painting.  I only played thirteen games during August, but I am thirteen games ahead of target.  Another plus is of those thirteen games I played eleven different opponents.

But more importantly of those thirteen games I didn’t win a single game.  Most of the games were with Thyra of which always get beaten on catser kill.  Therefore now my win ratio has dropped below twenty percent for the first time this year.  I need some win to boost my confidence!!

Dragon Slayers Big Bash III

This Saturday I attended the Dragon Slayers Big Bash III at Maelstrom Games.  Three games at 50pts you must use a different list in each game with the FA spread across the 3 lists so for eg each list must have a different caster and only one character Jack/Beast across the 3 lists – same for Eiryss and other character solos etc only one across the 3 lists.

Had a brilliant day, even though finish in second to last place a single control point being the difference.

Game One.  Overum

Started the tournament against Chris and his Protectorate of Menoth.  Chris played the Testament against my Epic Severius.  The game ended in a caster kill to Chris.  Excellent game Chris, who swamped the table with infantry.  Chris went on to win the tournament, well done Chris.

Game Two.  Incursion

Second game and I played Kreoss against Bruce and his Khador.  Again lost on caster kill.  I would have lost 4 to 1 on control points, but sent Kreoss in to kill some stuff.  This was the single control point which I scored to avoid last place.  This was a game I should have won, but was too concerned winning control points of one of the flags, I forgot the other.

Game Three.  Diversion

Last games and I played Thyra against Rich and his Cryx.  Again another lose by caster kill.  Played this game like a complete muppet, putting Thyra in charge distance of a Nightmare and game over.

Highlight of the weekend was Ruphert giving the Daughters tough and fearless, Rich had to put a lot of effort into killing them.  This has given idea for another inclusion into the Thyra list!

Next tournament is probably going to be Scrap Metal IV in October, unless another one day event crops up in the mean time.

Current collection of Protectorate of Menoth

This is my current collection of Protectorate of Menoth miniatures of which I am building a 100 point list for the Mansfield Mosh tournament in November.  With the sale of my Warriors of Chaos Warhammer Fantasy army the ranks have swelled somewhat!  The items in grey are still to be painted, and as you can see there is a lot of painting to be done.  I would prefer to take 100 points of Protectorate of Menoth to the Mansfield Mosh, so I had better get a move on.

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow (*6 points)
Repenter (4 points)
Reckoner (8 points)
Hierophant (2 points)
Hierarch Severius (*6 points)
Revenger (6 points)
Crusader (6 points)

Knights Exemplar (Leader and 5 Grunts) (5 points)
Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & 2 Honor Guard (4 points)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (3 points)
Exemplar Errant Seneschal (2 points)
Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist (2 points)
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon (3 points)
Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan (2 points)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2 points)
Paladin of the Order of the Wall (2 points)
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (2 points)

Taryn di la Rovissi (2 points)
The Covenant of Menoth (2 points)
The Wrack (3 wracks) (1 point)
Vassal of Menoth (2 points)
Vassal of Menoth (2 points)

These are still to purchase which will bring the above list to the magic 100 points required for the Mansfield Mosh.

Vassal Mechanik (1 point)
Vessal of Judgement (9 points)

However I would like to include the following, so may have to shuffle the 100 point list around a little.  However this all depends on how the painting is coming along.

Knight Exemplar Seneschal (3 points)
Flameguard Cleanser Officer (2 points)
Exemplar Errants (4 Grunts) (3 points)
Reclaimer (2 points)

After which I am going to include the following, which will probably be close to the end of the year.

Exemplar Vengers (Leader and 2 Grunts)
High Exemplar Gravus (5 points)
Holy Zealots (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Holy Zealot Monolith Bearer

Iron Wrath I – Aftermath

This Saturday myself and Tyler went along to Maelstrom Games for a one dayer, three games of 35 points and one game of 50 points.  The main idea behind this event was to give players the chance to play with, and play against the new elements of Wrath in a semi competitive environment.

I ended up in 25th place and Tyler ended in last place.  This could have easily been reversed, as you will find out!

Game One 35 Points, Incursion

First game and up against Tim with his Retribution.  I opted for Epic Severius and went on to lose on Scenario.  Tim played the game very well, and I was never in with a chance of winning.

Game Two 35 Points, Sacrifice

Next game and Owen with a Magnus Mercenaries List.  I opted for Prime Kreoss and went on to lose again on Scenario.  Yet again I was never in with a chance of winning, Owen played Magnus very well.

Game Three 50 Points, Outflank, Outfight, Outlast

The 50 point game was against Adam with his Cryx.  I know Adam from my Warhammer Fantasy tournament days, and we went on to play a very enjoyable game.  My 50 point list was Thyra, so could she get me my first tournament win against Cryx?  No, lost on caster kill.  My Reckoner only managed to put five wounds on Adams caster, so a sudden rush of blood and I threw Thyra in.  No wounds caused by Thrya, mainly due to being minus 14 on the dice rolls!  This was a case of looking at how the game was going.  We both scored no control points, but I was up on Victory Points.  So do nothing and win the game, but I went for the assasination!  Thanks for the game Adam.

Game Four 35 Points, Overrun

Last game on the bottom table and up against my son Tyler and Khador.  Tyler played his new caster Irusk, and again I played Thyra.  Tyler was playing this game very well, and I was well on my way to losing this and ending the tournament in last place.  This was until Tyler made a mistake and gave me a charge with a Bastion into Irusk.  Usually Irusk would have survived, but a roll of SIX, SIX, SIX and FIVE on the damage won me the game!

I really enjoy the one day tournaments, and will be attending the Dragon Slayers Big Bash III one dayer later on in the month.

150 Warmachine Games – July Update

Its all been about Thyra the new caster this month.  I ended up playing eighteen games and only winning three of those.  My win ratio is still down to around twenty percent.  Eleven of those games were with Thyra, and managed to win two of those.

However I am getting a lot more games these past two months which I should have won, with better dice rolls or not making a silly mistake.

Plus I managed to play the one remaining faction which I haven’t faced so far this year, this being Retribution.

As it stands I am still on target for playing one hundred and fifty games of Warmachine this year.

150 Warmachine Games – June Update

I have played nineteen games during June, mostly Hardcore practise and of course the tournament its self.  Five of those nineteen games resulted in a win, with another two draws.  On the plus side, another four games which resulted in a lose were games which I should have won.  So my win percentage is still below twenty five percent, but has improved.

At the moment I have played eighty two games so far this year, and thats eight ahead of target for one hundred and fifty games this year.  Over  the next two months will hopefully see me attending another two tournaments and lots of over games as well, so may be the target will change to two hundred games!

UK Hardcore Series I – The Aftermath

What a brilliant day playing Warmachine, the Hardcore format is mental and loads of fun. I finished in 9th place out of 16 players with two caster kill wins and an average caster kill time of 49 minutes and 45 seconds.

I am really pleased with that result and the day was a laugh as well. I will definately be attending the Hardcore Series II next year, may be with a army list more turned to getting quick caster kills.

Game 1 – Duncan with Cryx

Never won a tournament game against Cryx and this one was no different losing on caster kill. However Mortenebra fooled me with a spell, whereby his all army could stand up after Kreoss’s feat. If I had known that, then may be Eryss could have helped out! So the feat turn didn’t really happen. Memorable moment of the game, was me being very sporting and indicating that Duncan hadn’t activated a Warjack and still had plenty of time left. However this was the Warjack that finally killed Kreoss, if I hadn’t reminded Duncan then the Warjack would not have been in range. I did finish the game with the Crusader and a Paladin within charge range of Mortenebra, so it was kill Kreoss or I kill Mortenebra.

Game 2 – Ruth with Circle of Orboros

First time I have played against Circle of Orboros in a tournament of which I won with a caster kill in 43 minutes and 35 seconds. Ruth ran the whole army up within Kreoss’s control zone, so it would be rude not to knock it all down. The Circle of Orboros, then received a charge from an Avatar, Reckoner, Crusader, Bastions, Palladin, Vilmon and Rhoven with the Bodguards. At the end of this turn the only Kromac was left standing. Ruth tried to teleport Kromac into a range of Kreoss but failed. So Kreoss ended the game with a caster kill on Kromac.

Game 3 – Chris with Circle of Orboros

Another game against Circle of Orboros, but this time Epic Krueger. This game went the full 60 minutes without either side getting a caster kill. The Avatar did manage to get a charge on Krueger, but was fully loaded with Fury so passed the damaged onto the Beasts. It was a very slow game with both sides killing stuff, but not making any head way into getting a caster kill in time.

Game 4 – James with Khador

Going to the last game it was still possible to qualify for the Finals, but only with a quick caster kill. James brought Strakov to the table, a caster that I have played against a lot and is immune to fire damage (not good for a Menoth player). However I did get a caster kill win, but in 56 minutes and 15 seconds which was way to slow to qualify. Highlight of the game was Vilmon with Impervius wall standing infront of a unit of Cavalry which charged past him into Kreoss. Only one of the Cavalry unit made it, all were cut down with free strikes. Even the Kayazy assasins had a charge into Kreoss, but with Defenders Ward and six Focus I knew he would be ok (Tyler has tried this many times in the past). The caster kill came with an Enliven Avatar moving into range of Strakov and a Destroyer. The Avatar with full focus left Strakov on three wounds, which was a little annoying as the Avatar had killed Tyler’s Strakov in Scrap Metal III earlier in the year. However James forgot to allocate focus to the Destroyer, so the Avatar lived to kill Strakov next turn!

UK Hardcore Series I – List Sent

150 Warmachine Games – May Update

Its all been Hardcore practise with a few games of Mangled Metal thrown in.  I ended up playing thirteen games and only winning a single one of those.  My win ratio is down to around twenty percent.  Not bothered by this as I have been rushing a lot of games, because been trying to get down to seven minute turns.  However my Hardcore turn times are coming close to seven minutes.

As it stands I am still on target for playing one hundred and fifty games of Warmachine this year.  So from now until the Hardcore tournament later this month its only seven minute turns for me!

UK Hardcore Series I – Back with first list

I have had some more practise games recently and the turn times have been coming down to close to seven minutes.  However after nine games I have only managed to win a single one of those.

On the painting side, Eiryss is near to completion with the base coat down and have started on the shading and highlights.  The Vassal is still to be started.  But with nineteen painting days remaining I still have plenty of time.

The progress on the list however is a little strange!  It was last Tuesday at Maelstrom after the first game when I played the Revenger, I realised four Warjacks is too much Focus hungry.  So I found myself playing the second game with the original list that I came up with at the start of the month.  Therefore tthis is the list for Hardcore…
